My in-laws threw me a shower yesterday! It was very nice, with lots of good food and amazing presents. We got sooo many clothes and lots of bibs. Keith's cousin, the hostess, got us the bathtub from our registry (a big one!) and filled it with stuffed animals, onesies, and miscellaneous baby goodies. I wish I'd taken a picture before I took it apart! We are now officially overwhelmed with baby stuff. Ack! Time for some serious organization.
I found out via an email that someone neglected to pick up from the printer that my co-workers are throwing me a "surprise" baby shower this Friday. It's actually a shared shower, thankfully: another girl in my group is due just two weeks after I am, and a third had her baby a couple of weeks ago. The other two should rightfully get most of the attention. I'll be more than happy to fade into the background for that one!

Serious Baby Envy
This is my cousin's beautiful, sweet baby girl. Every time I see her I experience serious baby envy. Whycantshebemine? (My cousin, by the way, was 18 when she gave birth, and is unemployed and unmarried. Not that I'm bitter. To her credit, she seems to be a good mommy.) I spent some time with the baby this past weekend and just fell in love with her. She's so smiley and content. Awww.
But seriously. About 90 percent of the time I am not bitter. I have so far avoided most of the emotional pitfalls of infertility. I have my share of weepy hormonal days to be sure, and sometimes I stare longingly at strangers' baby bellies in public, but overall... 21 months in I'm doing all right. (Ask me again in a few months when we hit two years!)
Oh, about this picture. I took it with my fancy new Canon PowerShot G9, which is in the prosumer class of digital cameras, meaning it has lots of manual features. About 10 years ago I knew how to use them. Now, not so much. It's back to basics for me. I have found my new pastime. This particular picture was done using the very cool colour accent feature. I set it to blue, hoping to pick up the blue of her eyes, but I think the light was too dim so it just got the sheets she's lying on. I'll share more when I have some good ones.

Shopping Spree!

I thought it was time for a fun post. Here, in all its glory, is my new spring/summer wardrobe: one dress, one pair of pants, three T-shirts, six dressier shirts, two jackets, one short sweater to wear over the dress (centre) and over the aqua tank top (bottom right). I can't believe I bought all this stuff! And I'm likely to buy more! (Oh, I didn't include my new bra, but you didn't need to see that anyway.)
I feel like I've sorely neglected my lower half, but that's so much harder than tops. There's just no way to satisfy my desire to disguise my belly, hips, and thighs. I always have Stacy and Clinton of What Not To Wear giving running commentary in my head and nothing I try on meets their high standards of fit — or mine, I guess.

Random Pic of the Day
Since I don't have much going on, I thought I'd throw in a random pic. This is my mom's dog, Riley. (Well, I paid for half of him, but then the next year I went away to college and he's been hers ever since.) He is the love of my life next to my husband — such a sweetheart! In case you're wondering, he is three-quarters sheltie and one-quarter poodle.

A Few Carefree Days
These past few work-free, worry-free days have been wonderful. On the weekend I played glow-in-the-dark minigolf, saw a movie at the theatre, ate out, and spent time with family and friends.
Today, I got a haircut (not quite what I wanted but I like it anyway), bought some new lipstick (in a subtle, barely-there shade that I feel very comfortable with), went to the dentist (no cavities!), and had dinner at a restaurant (again). It was a lovely day. Here's a picture in which you can see my new haircut, my new lipstick, and my newly cleaned teeth.
(My hubby must think I'm nuts. I took about ten pictures
of myself before I got one that satisfied me. I really don't
photograph well.)

"Holidays"; Or, Why I Need a New Job
I just can't handle the workload anymore. I routinely give up weekends and evenings to try to keep up, and frankly I resent it. I know it's at least partly because I'm not as productive as I should be at the office these days, but that can't possibly account for all of it.
Here's the deal: I copyedit books. And once again, my entire schedule for a book has blown by without me having had any time to actually work on that book. This particular book would normally be a three-week project. I had already agreed to do it in two weeks. Now I will be attempting to do it in one week — my "holidays." My "holidays" during which I will also be having my laparoscopy.
I'm not happy about this. It seems wrong. But there's no easy way to deal with it, and I just really just want to run away and maybe hibernate for a few months. Here's a picture:

Random Pic of the Day
I searched for years to find the perfect tea set that wasn't shockingly expensive. I finally found this one in January and I love it. It's so me — so smooth and shiny and pretty pale blue. It makes me happy. I think Austin likes it too. :)

Random Pic of the Day
This is my all-time favourite picture of Austin, my very photogenic cat. Isn't he beautiful? He's lying on a manuscript I brought home from work. I wish I could remember which one.
